Each author has his own individual literary styleand critics of literature can identify the work of anauthor by the construction and diction of his writing.The Holy Spirit is the author of the Bible andhe has a literary style peculiar to himself, which distinguisheshis work from that of all human authors.There are certain literary characteristics in the Biblethat are not found in any book written by man. Itwould be profitable to list a great number of themand show how they distinguish the Bible from everyother book in the world.

One of the characteristics of the Holy Spirit’s literarystyle is the use of very long sentences, one ofwhich I shall read for our text this morning. It isthe opening sentence of the book of Hebrews: “God,who at sundry times and in divers manners spake intime past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath inthese last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom hehath appointed heir of all things, by whom also hemade the worlds; who being the brightness of hisglory, and the express image of his person, and upholding
