BLESSED BE THE DOG
My dog has but one eye. He was the beginningof things. Just how far he hascontrolled my destiny, just how far he hasshaped the lives of those about him, willnever be known until the dull human mindhas evolved a keener perception of the realvalues of life and has learned to becomeconscious of influences too subtle to berecognized by man in his present fallenestate. This is certain: he was the beginningof things. It was he who opened thedoor and led the way.
I have always felt that I owe that dogan apology which only a life of devotion[Pg 4]can express. The bitter truth is—I boughthim. What I paid for him is one of thosepersonal secrets which will r
